KAYA KÖY - ''Ghost Town'' as it has also been named. Originally built in the 1700's where maybe 20,000 Greeks resided by the early twentieth century. Thru much disagreement, violence and retribution in World War 1 they all agreed in the early 1920's that the Greeks were to flee there homes and return to Greece.
In Kayaköy, approx. 350 homes now sit empty and mostly roofless, along with two Greek Orthodox churches and the fountains and cisterns that watered the city.
You can book an excursion for this visit or hop on a dolmuş yourselves, it takes about 10 minutes. There is an entrance fee to get into the Ghost town (about 5tl) or you can see some ruins from the roadsides, where you can also find some traditional restaurants.
